3. Who can be a Member of INSCAN?
a. An INSCAN Member is that individual, family or corporate body who is insured, may later be insured, whose loved ones have or may become victims of accidents or who has or may have any matter to resolve or clarify on Insurance now or in the future. INSCAN also provides the opportunity for the non-insurance professionals and those who are able to see some linkages between their businesses/jobs/profession and Insurance to make inputs to the conduct of Insurance business in Nigeria. These are called Contractual Members.
Note: A member cannot be a serving Insurance Practitioner, engaged in Insurance Agency, Broking, Underwriting, Loss Adjusting, Reinsurance, Insurance Regulation or Insurance Market Associations.
a. An INSCAN Member is also any individual, family or corporate body who wishes to offer voluntary services as one of the following:
i. Volunteer Insurance Promoter (VIP) (for those interested in helping to promote the purchase of Insurance as stipulated by law or beneficial to the citizens in all the 36 States of Nigeria and the FCT) and ready to attend training sessions on Insurance basics.
ii. Insurance Crusade Lawyer (for lawyers who will help to prosecute members’ rights at law courts against negligent parties and institutions on “no-cure-no-pay” basis)
iii. Insurance Crusade Press (for journalists who will inform the public about non-conformance with the legal and contractual provisions of Insurance by the individuals and institutions).
iv. Volunteer Fire Fighter (for all who want to help with sensitisation of the general public and are ready to receive basic training regarding Fire Prevention, Fire Drills, Risk Management, Accident Prevention as well as assisting the Fire Service to put out fires on community basis in the 36 States of Nigeria and the FCT)
v. Insurance Crusade Technician (ICT)
vi. Related Support Service Provider (RSSP)
These are called Volunteer Members. (You may as well decide to be a non-service providing member.
4. What are the benefits of being an INSCAN member?
a) Free advisory services on insurance matters.
b) Complaints handling in the event of Denial, Delay or Inadequacy of Claim Payment, Breach of Insurance Contract, Delay in documentation, Non-remittance of Premium, Denial of refund, or Poor customer service.
c) Legal assistance in court for unresolved claims cases.
d) An opportunity to take part in any of our Insurance volunteer services – fire-fighting, insurance clinics, insurance promotion, insurance assembly.
e) An opportunity to further your technical and professional success, especially if you are engaged in Law, Journalism, Construction.
f) Training on Insurance Laws, Products and Practices that will enable you enlighten yourself, friends and neighbours on Insurance Contracts.
5. What are the conditions of being an INSCAN member?
a) Permanent Residence in Nigeria.
b) Gainfully employed or in-between jobs.
c) Possess the ability to purchase Income Protection Insurance worth at least N5, 000.00/annum.
d) Sufficient educational background to appreciate ongoing learning in financial services operations.
6. How much does it cost to be an INSCAN member?
Individuals: New Membership N2,500
Renewal N2,000
Family: New Membership N8,000
Renewal N5,000
Corporate Bodies: New Membership N20,000
Renewal N10,000
7. Can I benefit from INSCAN’s services without being a member?
Yes. You can have access to industry and practitioners’ information and statistics. We can also interpret your Insurance Contract for you or give general insurance advisory services upon payment of a small fee.
8. I need help with settling a claim. How much will INSCAN charge to help?
INSCAN charges a token administrative & Claims Processing fee which includes legal fees in case the matter ends up in the court, may be charged on no-cure-no-pay basis.

12. Are INSCAN services limited to traditional Insurance operators only?
No. Our advisory services cover Life and Property Insurance, Health Insurance, Pension, Gratuity, Annuity, Micro-Insurance, Takaful Insurance and Insurance Regulation.
13. Can I get information about the status of any Insurance operator in Nigeria from INSCAN?
Yes. INCAN maintains the records of all licenced Insurance Agent, Broker, Company or Loss Adjuster in Nigeria and their present status and market standing. This is however available to members on confidential basis.
14. How do I know my rights and responsibilities under an Insurance contract?
INSCAN publishes a Bill of Insurance Consumers’ Rights and Responsibilities which explains your duties, rights and privileges under an Insurance contract. You can also view this information here on our website.
INSCAN also organises annual lectures and conferences to update its members on developments on Insurance business at local and international levels.
15. What roles can I play as an INSCAN member?
Membership of INSCAN is drawn from two (2) sources:
a) Volunteer Members – These are members who join INSCAN without having any claim, complaint or grievance against any Insurance Practitioner or Institution. At this level, you are a Volunteer Insurance Crusader (VIC) to serve under any of the following six (6) platforms.
i. Volunteer Insurance Promoter (VIP)
ii. Insurance Crusade Lawyer (ICL)
iii. Insurance Crusade Press (ICP)
iv. Volunteer Fire Fighters (VFF)
v. Insurance Crusade Technician (ICT)
vi. Related Support Service Provider (RSSP)
b) Contractual Members – These are members who join INSCAN because they have grievances with Insurance Institutions.
Institutions are free to select any of the six (6) platforms above on voluntary basis.
